Transidentity: "To the detriment of freedom
of expression, it is the freedom of suppression that prevails"
« This book is rubbish. If you want to read it, don't buy it or burn it! In an op-ed for the newspaper Le Point, 281 personalities [1] – professors, doctors and intellectuals – denounced the remarks made during a "transidentity training" at a French university this month. The book that the participants were urged to burn is the Transgender Child Factory. A book intended to launch an alert, "because no one, at the time in France, had raised the slightest question about the medical management of children and adolescents declaring themselves "trans", whose number was increasing significantly".
'Militant propaganda'
« The fact that such a statement could be made on the premises of the university, without its author even seeming to perceive its scandalous nature, adds an additional dimension to the indignation: to the detriment of freedom of expression, it is the freedom of suppression that prevails... with impunity," the signatories of the op-ed protested.
They denounced a "militant propaganda", now at work in the academic world, which consists of "suppressing opponents and their writings as soon as they appear to be an obstacle to the project of imposing new norms".
A 'totalitarian mentality coated in good feelings'
The rhetoric used is "radical, intimidating, threatening, invoking the fight against discrimination", "a real victim shield neutralising any contradiction". "Freedom of expression is excluded in the name of tolerance so as not to hurt 'minorities'," they stress, denouncing "a totalitarian mentality coated with good feelings in the name of self-determined individuals."
Indeed, "the 'project' of replacing a fact – there are two sexes – with a new norm – one can change sex at will – claims to impose itself on the community without any prior societal debate", "a step that is nevertheless essential in a democracy", these personalities recall.
Questioning the "transidentity training" offered to students and university staff, "without any control over the training, qualification, or competence of the trainers", the signatories of the op-ed call for a moratorium on this type of training. They also call on the Ministry of Higher Education and Research to "launch a public inquiry into the funding and nature of accredited associations and trainers' diplomas".
