Jolin-Barrette to table a Quebec constitution
(Quebec) Premier François Legault is content for the moment with a "ministerial adjustment" and is still postponing a real reshuffle. While retaining Justice, Simon Jolin-Barrette inherits the position of Minister responsible for Canadian Relations.
He was responsible for tabling a Quebec constitution, one of the recommendations of the Proulx-Rousseau committee. This committee, which is responsible for finding ways to increase Quebec's autonomy within Canada, tabled its report in November. Mr. Jolin-Barrette has been working on a Quebec constitution for several years now.
This "ministerial adjustment" also comes in the context of the Supreme Court's agreement to hear the appeal against the Act respecting the laicity of the State (Bill 21), whose father is Simon Jolin-Barrette.
Jean-François Roberge thus loses responsibility for Canadian Relations, but he is not short of work: he remains Minister of Immigration and Minister responsible for the French Language, Secularism, Democratic Institutions and Access to Information.
In addition, François Legault has entrusted the Minister for Seniors and MNA for Prévost, Sonia Bélanger, with the title of Minister responsible for the Laurentides region, a responsibility previously held by Benoit Charette (Environment).
