Cannabis in family day care: André Fortin is exasperated by Minister Carmant
The Liberal Party of Quebec (PLQ) wants to ban cannabis use in family day care centers, but Minister Lionel Carmant refuses, according to André Fortin, a liberal critic on health.
"We do not understand his position when he says he wants to protect children," said the MP for Pontiac at the microphone
of the program " Up on the hill " at QUB radio, Thursday.
Late Wednesday evening, as elected officials studied clause by clause Bill 2 to frame cannabis, the Liberals found a "breach" making it legal to "consume cannabis in a family care setting while the children are here, "said Mr. Fortin.
They called for an amendment to the bill to close the gap. But Lionel Carmant, Minister Delegate for Health and Social Services
who is the sponsor of the bill, refused.
"For us, that makes no sense. I do not think any parent in Quebec would be happy to hear that, "said Mr. Fortin.
Minister Carmant reportedly said he wanted to form an advisory committee to look into the issue.
A position described as "irresponsible" by the PLQ, since waiting for the creation of such a committee risks delaying things.
"The law is open, it is before us. We do not understand why he does not want to settle right now, "said the Liberal MP Pontiac.
