Dignity of seniors in CHSLD: Minister Marguerite Blais tightens the screws on health managers

The Minister responsible for Seniors and Caregivers is tightening the screws on health facility managers
to ensure the quality of life of residents in CHSLD.

Marguerite Blais wrote a short letter to CIUSSS CEOs, the CEO of the James Bay Regional Health and Social Services Centre
and the CEO of the McGill University Health Centre.

It reminds them of "ministerial guidelines for maintaining the autonomy of users in health and social services facilities,
particularly in residential and long-term care centres (LTCHs) ».

These guidelines are dictated in the document "A quality living environment for people living in CHSLD".

Personal development

Health facilities where seniors live "must promote the maintenance and capacity building of the host edyments and their personal development,
while taking into account their personal will," the Minister continues.

Marguerite Blais also relies on the autonomy of seniors. Stakeholders should focus on an "approach to supporting, stimulating and supporting
the person's abilities by providing them when they need the means to supplement their disabilities," she told health managers.

The minister even gives them a directive about continental residents. "They should not wear incontinence panties,
" the letter states. To achieve this, the minister guides them.

"To this end, the organization of services must also promote the maintenance and development of capacity for the performance of activities important
to the resident, both inside and outside the living environment," concludes Marguerite Blais.
