In spite of yourself, you are perceived as anti-gender activists

If you defend monogamous hererosexual marriage and the idea that sex is an immutable biological given that determines your male or female gender, you are nerds on the wrong side of history and you are the enemy to be defeated! This, schematically, is what seems to be taken for granted among the elites of our Western world. The reading of a special issue of the Courrier International entitled "He, she, she... gender revolutions", published this spring, allows us to see more clearly how supporters of the LGBTQI lobby view those who do not share their convictions. Analysis.

There is a war... and we are considered to be the aggressors
"Attacks on so-called 'gender ideology' have multiplied in recent years around the world, monopolizing public debate, exacerbated by social media, and supported by wide-seated right-wing Catholic and evangelical organizations.". These are the words of Judith Butler, a prominent figure in promoting the transgender worldview. They appear in an article in the Guardian, which the Courrier International placed at the very beginning of its Special Edition (Editor's note: the trademark of the Courrier International is to compile newspaper articles from all over the world). The tone is set, and Judith Butler then goes on to denounce with feigned astonishment the "anti-gender activists", that is to say all those who "challenge the very notion of gender, accusing it of denying biological sex or undermining the natural or divine character of the heteronormative family".À

The article wants to raise awareness that it's incredible that people are still opposed, in 2022, to something as obvious as LGBTQI rights. "The primary goal of this nationalist, transphobic, misogynistic and homophobic movement is to invalidate the progressive laws obtained in recent decades by the LGBTQI and feminist movements." Then Judith Butler mocks all the arguments of these anti-gender
activists animated by a "reactionary fervor".

Reversal of the situationJudith Butler's comments show that we have seen a reversal of the situation. Today, "militants" are no longer the supporters of gender ideology who attacked certain gains built on traditional foundations, but those who oppose this ideology. "Normality" is to be committed to the LGBTQI cause; To oppose it is to be considered de facto as an opponent of the good. Warlike words are used in spades in the article to describe this adversary: "militants", "anti", "pressure group", "detractors", "reactionaries", "inflammatory allegations", "discrimination", "fascist tendency". The icing on the cake, Butler tells us, "critics of the genre look for arguments in the Bible."

What is the robot portrait of the "bad guy"?Today, "militants" are no longer the supporters of gender ideology who attacked certain gains built on traditional foundations, but those who oppose this ideology. "Normality" means being committed to the LGBTQI cause

The entire Occasional Edition of the Courrier International then sets out to demonstrate that LGBTQI people must therefore continue... combat. A struggle, we understood, legitimized by the fact that the supporters of gender are the victims, and the "anti-gender activists" the aggressors. A map of the world, entitled "LGBTQI: rights still to be conquered", paints a portrait of good and bad students, the worst dunces being the states that still criminalize homosexuality. The fight must therefore continue, we are told. And the floor is thus given for example to transgender alpaca farmers in Colorado, who have taken refuge in the countryside and united in a trans community to resist their aggressors, "fascists armed to the teeth", linked to the extreme right, also opposed to the measures of the government during Covid.

This is one example among others of the amalgams that are made, discreetly but surely, throughout this magazine. A "robot portrait" emerges from the "classic anti-gender activist": far-right supporter, religious (whether affiliated with the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt or evangelical Christians in the United States), populist and playing on fears, lacking arguments, anti-scientific, obscurantist, macho, and so on... That's not all: this anti-gender aggressor is attacking not only the transgender movement, but women in general. In this war described by the International Courier, the aggressors are guilty of all kinds of evils, and the victims are united in their martyrdom.

Are we therefore in favour of excision?Judith Butler quickly made a shortcut by claiming that this anti-gender movement, therefore, "opposes measures to protect women from rape and domestic violence". Another article, from Egypt, gives the floor to a feminist activist who is indignant at the oppression of the State and religious fanatics against LGBTQI, against women's sexuality... and also notes that 87% of girls are victims of genital mutilation in order to control their sexuality. The reader thus emerges with the idea in mind that "everything is connected" and risks putting on the same level the promotion of excision and the refusal of transgenderism.

Another example of this sweet mixture that is proposed to us: in an article devoted to masculinity, we are made to understand that the "traditional model", as it is called, helps to create violent and macho men, but that the LGBTQI revolution has fortunately allowed men to be "really themselves": they are now more inclined to express their emotions... and "on TikTok, young heterosexuals wear nail polish and talk about vulnerability as a superpower." This new generation is "challenging gender norms."

School and university as ideological instrumentsA theme that still emerges from this special issue of the Courrier International: that of the expansion of LGBTQI "good news" in society thanks to at least two bodies, school and culture. For example, we are portrayed as the happiness of Sonnie, a "gender fluid, genderqueer and pansexual" person from Australia, who benefited from the unconditional welcome of an Australian high school particularly avant-garde by its policy of inclusion. Then an Israeli psychologist, engaged in schools, encourages children with "gender variants" to be who they are, and their parents not to slow them down. As for academia, it is at the forefront of the fight to defend and promote LGBTQI rights: it is here that researchers especially gather, who "study and develop queer theories and work in the field of gender studies".

Series to "educate" teensOn the cultural side, it should be noted, with the Washington Post article, that several new video games "allow players to have queer relationships and use non-binary pronouns". This virtual world gives young LGBTQI people the opportunity to have "more confidence in themselves" and then dare to live in reality what they live behind their screens. A kind of initiation to "fluidity" in the field of gender.

The sexual revolution is also well "advanced" in television series, producers having launched series especially aimed at young people. One example is the Netflix series "Sex Education", which we are told "showed more scenes of sex between minors than ever before on the small screen. The quest for orgasm, the discovery of sexual preferences, the trauma of sexual assault, but also the difficulties faced by non-binary young people, nothing is left out in the sex education lessons delivered throughout the series.

Let's not be naïve... nor intimidatedAs Christians, this portrait leaves us perplexed and quite discouraging. What should be done with it? What lessons can be learned? This special issue of the Courrier International has the "merit" of taking away the rest of the naivety that we perhaps had left... We are part, ideologically, of a minority that is now considered obscurantist and... Aggressive! Like it or not, we will be branded as "anti-gender activists" as long as we don't adhere to the entirety of LGBTQI discourse. Dialogue seems almost impossible, since we remain attached to a divine and biblical vision of marriage, sexuality and relations between men and women. But let us not be intimidated by this "wisdom of the world": the wisdom of God far surpasses it and perceives it as akin to anything but wisdom...

Our rejection of ideas must not lead us to hatred of people created in the image of God.

We also need to sort out what we are accused of: one can be opposed to transgender ideology without being a hate-filled fascist ready to pick up a gun; We can be a truly masculine man without beating our wife and while having a certain sensitivity; We can hold on to distinctions and roles between men and women without denying rights for women or wishing for excision and sexual violence!

And then, let's also sort out the LGBTQI ideology and the people who identify with this movement: our rejection of ideas must not lead us to a hatred of people created in the image of God. We will continue to be called "transphobic," but we know before God what we have in our hearts.
Our way of life speaksFinally, it is not only our discourse that must be clear, but also our way of life. Behind the happy and triumphalist portrait that the Courrier International makes of these LGBTQI movements, lies a much darker reality that is not mentioned here: that of the doubts, suffering, lack of meaning and identity crises of many. If Christians live strong and loving marriages, if young Christians are comfortable with their identity and sexuality, if men are men according to God, and women are women according to God, our contemporaries will see it. And in the midst of the complete destructuring of the values and foundations of our societies, they may be challenged by the stability of what was created by God, not to enslave man in shackles, but for his good.
