Mr. Legault, appoint a Minister of Education
who listens to families!
We address the father of the family that you are. At the same time as you are thinking about the formation of your next Cabinet, we are asking you to appoint a Minister of Education who will listen to Quebec's educating families, who will be truly open-minded and will agree to dialogue with families and meet with us.
In Quebec, home-educating families contribute to the educational success of thousands of elementary and secondary school children. It should be remembered that more than 50% of homeschooled children live daily with learning disabilities or physical or mental health problems, challenges that the current education system cannot meet.

Learn moreFor many families, homeschooling is a real lifeline, the one and only alternative to ensure that
the special needs of their child are truly taken into account.
Our children penalized
Currently, the rights of homeschooling families are being violated, and the academic success of thousands of homeschooled children is compromised. The changes made to the regulations in 2019 by your government now impose, without any flexibility, the program and exams, without taking into account the educational project of families and the special needs of children. As a result, the ministry is unduly interfering, creating an unfair system that penalizes our children for not fitting the mold of education in school!
With the ministerial tests imposed by the Ministry of Education, more than 1950 homeschooled young people suffered last June anxiety-provoking situations that could have been avoided if your Minister of Education had listened. These examinations take place under conditions that we denounce because they do not respect the special needs of the majority of our children.
An autistic student in the fourth grade of primary school becomes disorganized and falls into crisis at the mere thought of having to go to a school that is totally unknown to her to take an exam. A sixth-grader suffers from epilepsy and stress triggers his seizures, which skyrocket as the required exams approach.
A Secondary II student must return to a school where he or she has been bullied. Far from the simple stress caused by ministerial reviews, this kind of situation has been the reality for many homeschooled children. To make matters worse, young people who have not been able to take the exams will have to take them one year later, in the spring of 2023.
Not to mention the unfair and unacceptable requirements and the process of graduating from high school. As a result, young people in homeschooling are evaluated with only one test per subject that counts for 100% of the mark. How is this fair and favorable for graduation?
The Prime Minister of All Children
For four years, your minister Jean-François Roberge refused to meet with us. He did not respect the educating families and remained insensitive to the plight of homeschooled children, despite our many attempts at dialogue. In this situation, how could the minister claim to know what our young people really need in terms of education if he never deigned to establish a connection with the associations representing them?
Mr. Legault, today we are asking you to be the premier of all Quebec children and to appoint a new Minister of Education who will listen to home-educating families. Because our young people deserve it!
