THE POSITION OF THE HAITIAN CHURCH ON THE DIFFERENT MORAL ISSUES STEMMING
FROM THE RECENT DECREES PUBLISHED BY THE HAITIAN GOVERNMENT
Reverse the legalization of Child Prostitution, Incest, Bestiality and in Haiti.

The Government of the Republic has published several decrees in the last 4 months on various issues that have sparked criticisms from various organized sectors and simple citizens of society. Several points in the decrees drew the ire of the majority of Haitians who view them as a series of attacks by the government on the morality of Haitian society, on its customs and culture, while ignoring the real needs of the population. We, the Haitian Church, have the responsibility to defend the morality of our country; we have decided to take a stand on these immoral decrees.
Therefore :
1. We reject the articles 304 and 471 of the new Penal Code which subtly lower the consensual age or sexual majority to 15 years.
2. We reject the article 468 of the new Penal Code, which facilitates the consumption of alcohol in children above the age of 15.
3. We reject the article 471 of the Penal Code which indirectly introduces child prostitution into our society since the adults who sexually approach minors above the age of 15 are not penalized.
4. We reject the article 305 of the new Penal Code, which allows sexual practices between cousins and cousins, between uncles and nieces, between aunt and nephew.
5. We reject the article 301 which even subtly authorize voluntary sexual relations between humans and animals while Haitian society rejects these practices in its moral system, Christians and non-Christians alike.
7. We reject the Articles 362 and 363 of the new Penal Code which punish priests, pastors, civil registrars when they refuse to provide a public service which goes against their moral and religious conviction. These officers will spend 1 to 5 years in prison and get a fine ranging from 50,000 to 100,000 gourdes. The article 366 mentions sanctions for "legal persons", that is to say institutions such as churches.
Recommendations:
We urge the government of the Republic to review and repeal all aspects of those articles and decrees that violate the country's Constitution, the Civil Code and which are contrary to the customs and culture of Haitian society.
Finally, we remind the political authorities that: “Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people. ” Proverbs 14.34.
