Say No to Bill C-367!
MP and Bloc Québécois Leader Yves-François Blanchet is causing a religious freedom controversy as he tables Bill C-367.
The bill's aim? To amend our hallowed Criminal Code through the erasing Sections 319(3)(b) and 319(3.1)(b), which provides one’s religious belief as a legal defense when facing charges and accusations of committing “hate speech” crimes.
Blanchet asserts his amendment is just about maintaining social harmony and a “simple” solution to curb the “alleged abuse” of one’s personal religious beliefs to “incite hatred” against others.
In typical politician fashion, Blanchet has worded his amendment as “sensible” and “common sense” on the surface. However, this is just a facade for legislation that will criminalize your right to express your faith freely with others, especially within public spaces.
Sections 319(3)(b) and 319(3.1)(b) of the Criminal Code are now in peril, as they are the safeguards within the Criminal Code to protect our Charter Rights and Freedoms.

Without these crucial protections, individuals like Pastor Artur Pawlowski – who has been charged numerous times for sharing Bible passages in public – could be found guilty of hate speech since expressing one’s religious belief would no longer be a valid legal defense.
