Elder abuse: a quick review of the law requested
The Quebec Golden Age Federation (FADOQ) is calling for a "quick review" of the Elder Abuse Act, passed in spring 2017.
She is asking the Legault government to introduce criminal sanctions against the perpetrators of ill-treatment.
"It is imperative that complaints that prove to be well-founded result in sanctions. The law must put an end to omerta that is rampant in the health and social services sectors, "said FADOQ Network President Gisèle Tassé-Goodman.
The organization is "concerned" by La Presse's revelations that 866 cases of abuse were reported last year.
Nevertheless, he is "encouraged by the fact that the application of the law has prompted an increasing number of people t
o formulate complaints to denounce inadmissible situations"
For its part, the Complaints Commissioner of the CISSS Montérégie Center says that if she obtained the most denunciations in Quebec, this can be explained in part by the fact that she also has under her responsibility residences for seniors
from his counterparts in Montérégie-Ouest and Montérégie-Est.
