"Full of staff" in health by 2022,
assures Minister Blais
The Minister responsible for Seniors and Caregivers, Marguerite Blais, says she is "convinced" that the health network will have "refueled" by the opening of the first 45 new long-term care homes, in 2022.
As reported in Le Droit in its Monday edition , Ms. Blais stopped in Gatineau, Monday, to unveil the first location of a seniors' home, a concept "on a human scale" by which by the Coalition future Quebec ( CAQ) wants to replace the traditional accommodation and long-term care centers (CHSLD).
Sixty places for seniors and 12 alternative places for those 65 and under with specific needs will be created in two years in the Hull sector, on land located at the corner of Saint-Raymond and Lionel-Émond boulevards, sold by the Foundation Gatineau health for the sum of one dollar.
The building will thus be located right next to the CHSLD Lionel-Émond.
While the health network is grappling with a serious shortage of personnel, the Minister refuses to slow the start of projects
for this reason and says she is "optimistic" of succeeding in attracting workers.
"We are reaching a pivotal period in Quebec, it is absolutely necessary to take care of our most vulnerable people," she said. It is not by saying “we are going to make the status quo, we do not develop more places” that this is the solution. The solution is to create environments that will allow
us to attract staff. […] I am convinced that by 2022, we will be full of staff and that people will come back to work in these environments. ”

Invited to speak at the announcement, Liberal MP for Hull, Maryse Gaudreault, thanked Ms. Blais - who was also a Liberal MP from 2007 to 2015 - for the "gift" made to her riding with the announcement of the arrival of a seniors' home and for the
"new way of developing CHSLDs in Quebec" put forward by the CAQ.
At the same time, Ms. Gaudreault addressed the issue of the workforce, saying she hoped "that it will attract new workers in the health field,
and not that it is people who are already here [in CHSLD ] who change places. "
"It's not at all what we want," says Marguerite Blais. We want to work on both fronts. In life, if you always think negatively,
you are never able to move forward. I think positively. "
Josée Filion, president and chief executive officer of the Outaouais Integrated Health and Social Services Center, does not yet know how many workers it will take to operate the 72 new spaces announced by Quebec. The organization's game plan will be clarified later,
among other things "according to customer profiles".

East of Gatineau
An announcement must be made later for the opening of another seniors' home in the Outaouais. The government recently announced that the
region should have a total of 131 places by 2022. With Monday's announcement, there are therefore nearly 60 other places to be created.
The Société québécoise des infrastructures launched a call for interest last December to find land in eastern Gatineau, between boulevard Lorrain
and the Masson-Angers sector, as well as between highway 50 and route 148. However, no transaction has been concluded to date.
"We are watching it for the field," said Ms. Blais. As soon as the land is acquired, we can announce it to you. ”

MANIWAKI WILL HAVE HIS ELDERLY HOUSE
The replacement of the Maniwaki Residential and Long-Term Care Center (CHSLD) will be done under the seniors' house model,
assures Minister Marguerite Blais.
While in Gatineau on Monday to announce the implementation of this new model in the Hull sector, the Minister responsible for Seniors and Caregivers said that the same style will be used for the Maniwaki CHSLD. Long called Foyer Père-Guinard, this CHSLD is in a flood
zone and had to be evacuated during the floods of 2017 and 2019.
"When we go to rebuild, it will be [with the] model of seniors' house," said Ms. Blais. I am very, very,
very concerned about this CHSLD, it is one of my priorities. ”
The Maniwaki CHSLD will therefore be one of the 25 centers that will be rebuilt. "We are not going to go back to the old model," said Minister Blais. We are proposing a new accommodation model every time we are going to rebuild and even when we are going to renovate. Of course we cannot change the architecture, the structure, but we will make sure to free up much more space so that people can walk around, wander around in wheelchairs. ”
The board of directors of the Outaouais Integrated Health and Social Services Center (CISSSO) must make a decision on the choice of land in the coming months. The land of the Maniwaki Hospital is the favorite of stakeholders in the Vallée-de-la-Gatineau, but an "alternative field" has also been identified.
The CISSSO had recently indicated that the opening of the new 100-place center is scheduled for 2024. "It may be going much faster than 2024,
" said Marguerite Blais. These places do not count among the 131 that the CAQ wishes to create in the Outaouais region by 2022, she said.
Currently, the CHSLD on rue des Oblats offers 69 places, while 12 accommodation beds are located at Maniwaki Hospital.
