Medical assistance in dying and conversion therapy: free votes, promises O'Toole
OTTAWA - Conservative Party Leader Erin O'Toole will allow free votes on two controversial bills for some of his MPs.
In the past few days, the Trudeau government has reintroduced its bill on medical assistance in dying and another to ban conversion therapy.
Both of these bills met with resistance from the conservative social faction of the Conservative Party.
Mr. O'Toole had already promised during the leadership race that he would allow his MPs a free vote on such issues.

"Yes, we are going to do it," he reiterated to reporters who asked him the question at the entrance
to his caucus meeting on Wednesday morning.
Its parliamentary leader, Gérard Deltell, stressed that there is no “right or wrong position” and that we must be respectful of the opinions of all.
At the same time, Mr. Deltell added that Mr. O'Toole had taken a strong stand against conversion therapy.
