At first, this bill only concerned digital giants such as Netflix. The government's intention was to force them to respect broadcasting Canadian content in the same way as traditional television broadcasters (Radio-Can, TVA, CTV, etc.) and to force them to pay royalties. But about 2-3 weeks ago, the heritage ministry committee had the articles that protected content on social media such as Facebook, YouTube and others removed. As a result, anyone who broadcasts on these platforms could be forced to submit to Canadian diversity with all that that entails and have their right to broadcast withdrawn if they use "hateful and offensive" speech. How will they define what hateful and / or offensive speech is remains a mystery. What is fascinating about this issue is that this bill is controversial in English Canada
