Racism and Discrimination
We live in a very tumultuous time when the uncertainty of tomorrow is in full swing. Confinement, already an unprecedented ordeal, has been, without a doubt, the most destabilizing experiece of the genesis of this young century. At the same time, what has definitely set the record for this season of worldwide viral fear within nations is the explosion of global anger over the death of Mr. George Floyd caused by the actions of a police officer in Minnesota on May 25th, 2020.
UVVC emphasizes the critical importance of maintaining Christian values if we wish to see a tomorrow filled with hope for the future of our children in our Canada-Quebec society. As justice, righteousness, and love are among the most fundamental values of Christianity, it goes without saying that we do not approve of such acts of violence, injustice, or racism as observed in the case of Mr. Blake during his fateful arrest. We are aware that this incident is not isolated and that several similar situations have brought tears and have caused many members of the black community in Quebec and Canada to cringe.
We would like to express our sadness and our solidarity with the black people. Know that we are praying that God may allow us to fight together with you to silence racism, hatred, and intolerance in all its forms with justice, fairness, and integrity.
In conclusion, Martin Luther King uttered these famous words that still resonate in the collective consciousness of humanity, "I think of a day when people will not be judged by the colour of their skin but by the content of their character." May this day rise today and may we finally do everything possible to make intentional altruistic gestures and to use effective prevention strategies while performing acts of justice without prejudice for the eradication of racism and any trace of injustice in our world today, in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.
