Quebec unveils concept of "Seniors' Homes" [PHOTOS]
The Quebec government unveiled Tuesday morning its concept of "Maison des aînés", a flagship project of the Coalition avenir Quà © bec which put it forward in the election campaign. In unveiling the 12-room unit project, the minister responsible for seniors, Marguerite Blais, said she was betting on finding the necessary staff to work on it, despite the current shortage of staff.
At a press conference in Montreal, the minister, enthusiastic, spoke of a "big project" and a "big turnaround" for seniors with a loss of autonomy. As already announced, it has confirmed the creation of 2,600 new spaces in Seniors' Homes or Alternative Houses, as well as the renovation
or reconstruction of 2,500 spaces in residential and long-term care centers (CHSLDs), for a total of total bill of more than $ 2.6 billion.
Note that 500 places will be managed by private institutions.
The seniors' home will welcome seniors who have lost their moderate autonomy and will be accompanied until their major loss of autonomy.
As for the alternative home, it will accommodate an adult clientele - under 65 - with specific needs.
New spaces will be open by 2022. Targeted land will be purchased by the government by next spring.
As for the renovation and reconstruction of existing buildings, there is no timetable.
Ms. Blais ensures that there will not be two classes of residents between those who live in seniors' homes and those in CHSLDs.
The rates will be the same, she added, without providing more details.
The minister recognizes that, given the 3154 Quebeckers currently on a waiting list, the creation of 2,600 new spaces will not solve everything.
"The needs are so great," she told reporters. Her government, however, has done a lot more than the previous ones, she added.
